Lost Prophets are a Bay Area husband-and-wife singer/songwriter duo, Yosifah Rose and Nathan Craver
Lost Prophets describe their sound as a fine eclectic blend of country flavored progressive folk with a dash of acoustic rock thrown in for extra spice. Their original songs combine humor, heartache, love and social consciousness with fine vocal harmonies and acoustic guitars, with occasional mandolin, mandocello, joura, electric bass or percussion added for variety. 'Prophet-ized' covers by some of their favorite artists are also mixed in to the set.
Nathan and Yosifah Rose began writing and performing together in San Francisco in 1987. Bassist Mike Kenny joined on in 1988 and the trio began performing as Lost Prophets. Lost Prophets released an hour-long cassette album, 'Someday', in 1989.
Nathan and Yosifah Rose moved to the East Bay in 1991, and Mike left the fold to form his own jazz band. Lost Prophets continued as a duo, until Dave Campbell joined on pedal steel guitar for a couple of years in the mid-90's. Dave has since retired from performing but still hangs out with the band.
Yosifah Rose has been singing, playing guitar and writing songs for as long as she can remember. Prior to teaming up with Nathan, Rose sang with various cover bands, but prefers performing her own songs with Lost Prophets. Her influences include Emmylou Harris, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Bonnie Raitt, Shawn Colvin and Linda Ronstadt. Rose is a sensitive and emotional vocalist with power and a wide range, her unique and pleasing voice is the very heart of Lost Prophets. She is currently studying and performing Middle Eastern music With Al 'Azifoon.
Nathan has been playing lead guitar and writing songs since he was not quite 13. Over the years, he has also added bass, drums, keyboards, mandolin, mandocello and joura to his arsenal. He has played with local legends such as Dale Miller, Toby Mountain (with whom he toured Germany and cut an album), Van Rozay and local folk-rockers Coconut Monkey. Nathan's aggressive lead guitar and mandolin playing gives an edge of excitement to the Lost Prophets sound. For the past few years, Nathan has been studying Middle Eastern drumming and oud and currently plays with Al 'Azifoon. See Nathan's Eastern Strings site at www.easternstrings.com for further information.
Nathan and Yosifah Rose were founding members of the Martinez Music Society.
